Should You Rent Camera Gear? Here’s What I Did and Why It Worked.
The problem I ran into
I found LensRentals when I was looking to buy a lens but didn’t have a few thousand dollars to drop on a lens or camera body. I was heading to Colorado and already spending a ton on the trip, but I also wanted to capture the landscape in ways I hadn’t been able to before with my previous setup.
I didn’t have the money for a new lens or camera at the time, so I rented the setup I wanted.
I know, I know. It’s not all about the gear. People can take great photos with whatever setup they have access to. But I was just too curious to see what it would be like. In my opinion, the lens matters more than the camera body. So I went with renting a high-end lens instead of spending money on a new body.
While it’s normally about the photographer and not the gear, different lenses really can create different looks. I can tell the difference when I’m editing. A cheap lens versus an expensive one? The clarity alone is noticeably different.
Why I recommend LensRentals (and no I am not getting paid to say any of this :)
So, whether you’re just getting started in photography, thinking about starting a business, or you simply don’t have the cash to drop thousands right now, check out LensRentals.com. I’m not a partner with them. I don’t get any commission. They’re just a company I’ve used for years and genuinely recommend.
My go to lens and rental is the Canon RF 70-200MM 2.8 with the Canon EOS R6, this setup will change your life. I would say 90% of my photography was shot using the 70-200mm.
